What am I supposed to be doing here?

I saw a Buddhist quote the other day which said: ‘The greatest gift you can give to other people is your enlightenment.’

I was pleased to see this quote, as that is what I feel I am trying to do for this lifetime. This point is reinforced by Tarot numerology where I find that being born under the Major Tarot card number 9 card of the Hermit, tells the same story.

As the description of the Tarot card explains, the Hermit is walking his new pathway lit by the lantern he is holding. The lantern light can be described as the ‘light of our knowledge’ helping us move forward in life. When I find out some new spiritual knowledge, which helps me move forward on my life’s path, I like to share my enlightenment with others, as the Buddhist quote says.

One of the deeper meanings of the Hermit card is talking of an open hand. This is described as reaching towards Heaven. I like to read this that we are reaching our hands out to grasp spiritual knowledge as it is also saying that this is union with the Creative Source, God, the Universal Energy or whatever name we have for the energy that runs the Cosmos.

If you would like to find out more about your life’s purpose, this is how you can do it.

Write down all the numbers in your birth date.

Next, add all the numbers together then reduce them to a single digit as below.

For example, if you were born on 8.7.1972

8 + 7 + 1 + 9 + 7 + 2 = 34 Then add 3 + 4 = 7. No 7 is the card of The Chariot and therefore is the card for the person born on that date.

All birthdates when reduced to a single number will be between numbers 1 and 9, which relate to the first 9 Major Tarot cards.

When you have worked out your birthday number, the corresponding numbered card below will give you an idea of your life’s plan. It can help you work towards a more intuitive state of mind using the ideas found in the meaning of your card..

1) The Magician: this card says you have great abilities to co-ordinate the different parts of your life and can also be a channel of spiritual knowledge. The card shows you have initiative and great communication skills. A confident, bold and self reliant person who can achieve great things, once there is understanding of how life works.

2) The High Priestess: if you are born under this card, you may well be very intuitive and clairvoyant. You can probably ‘tune in’ to others and make a very empathetic friend. You are interested in the mysteries of life and able to search within your own psyche for answers.

3) The Empress: this card speaks of a life with much available for you to appreciate and to feel fulfilled. It can represent a very creative life, with safety and security, fertility and abundance. Could also indicate a life devoted to bringing up children.

4) The Emperor: this card means stability and being grounded and you like a structured environment. Leadership qualities are present and great focus using logic and reason. You can bring order out of chaos and be of help in guiding others.

5) The Hierophant (or spiritual teacher): you offer kindness, sustenance, advice and comfort. You listen to your intuition. You seek knowledge and enjoys sharing this with others. You may need stability to feel comfortable.

6) The Lovers: Your purpose here is to learn more about how relationships work, both romantic and otherwise. To understand the differences between people, as well as learning about the male and female aspects of yourself, reconciling the differences on both the inner and outer levels of your world.

7) The Chariot: this card speaks of you taking responsibility for yourself. Self control, self confidence and being able to master your world by understanding the difference between the rational and emotional parts parts of your mind and using them together to make progress. Success as the result of effort. Talents being used to the full.

8) Justice: a card denoting balance or that you are here to create a life of balance. You could also be the person others come to, in order help solve their differences, thereby creating balance in their world. Possibly attracted to the law and legal matters.

9)The Hermit: the hermit shines his lantern upon the narrow road he is walking. This could be that once you have found your own pathway through life, you can help others by shining the ‘lantern light of your knowledge’ to help them, so that they may find their own way forward. It may also be indicative that you like to be introspective at times, being alone to think and evaluate your circumstances.

I hope this gives you things to ponder upon. Enjoy!
