Training a Monkey Mind
You CAN control your thinking.
Choose your thoughts carefully as the Law of Attraction will bring them to your door.
We live in a world where we are bombarded with sensationalist and often negative news. I recall when the pandemic started, a newscaster’s first words were,’ 5,000 people have died today’. Yes, that was very tragic, however, what about mentioning the people who had recovered from Covid? That might have helped reduce the fear level a little, at least.
Then we have social media bigging up every little insult or hurt. On other occasions, I have seen people spiralling into negativity, getting caught up in the drama of the situation and building on it until they are in such a state of panic, that they cannot be reasoned with.
I am not saying that we can be positive about everything in our lives. I lived through some devastating events in my twenties, which caused me to have a complete breakdown. However, when I came out the other side, I decided the best way forward was to celebrate everything that I could, as an antidote to the bad times I had been having.
Here is an example of mine, when I was in panic mode, in the 1980s. I was out of work, had a mortgage to pay and then received a tax bill from HMRC of over £2,000, due to my previous employer underpaying my tax to the Government. The only way I could counteract the panic flooding my mind, was to go for a walk and repeat an affirmation ( a positive statement of intent) over and over, crowding out the panic. My affirmation was ‘The abundance of the Universe is mine’. I was afraid that if I couldn’t pay my bills, I would lose my home.
This situation resolved itself over a period of time as an acquaintance of mine, an accountant, told me to pay what I could, which I did, and HMRC would then send me a new tax bill with the reduced amount I needed to pay, rather than me having to pay the bill all at once which I couldn’t have done anyway.
I would suggest that the first thing to do when negative thoughts are crowding our minds is to mentally or physically say the word STOP!
Then replace negative thoughts immediately with an affirmation for example, ‘This too, will pass.’ There are any number of affirmations that we can choose to incorporate into our daily thoughts. A friend of mine had a friend who used to say to herself in the mirror every morning ‘Hello beautiful’ and said that she had seen a difference for the better in her friend’s appearance!
I see it as a staircase of building one positive thought on another. Praise and gratitude work wonders, whether for the self or another. I know some people who remember a compliment years after it was given.
We can also try and analyse how credible the negative thinking is – can it be reduced to’ if this is the worst thing that happens today, then I can survive’ or, ‘this is just a drop in the ocean of life.’
Consider too what the effect of a negative mindset might be having on another, especially children. My mother remembers hearing her mother say at the beginning of World War 11, that they were all doomed. A eight year old boy asked me when the Millennium computer changeover was about to happen, were we all going to die! He had heard so many dire predictions of the world grinding to a halt if the computers didn’t work, and I am afraid to say that these predictions had come from a religious source.
Bringing a positive approach to life can be so much more fun. One example that I can think of is when my husband and I checked into a hotel in Las Vegas. We chatted with the receptionist asking how he was and in response, we were offered a free bottle of bubbly. On another occasion, we asked a waiter how his day was going and he said in all the years of working as a waiter, we were the first to ask him how he was and how much he appreciated being asked.
As I said at the beginning, what you think about will come to your door sooner or later. Your thoughts are energy which go out into the cosmos and energy attracts like energy. Therefore thinking positively, may bring you far more than you ever imagined.
This I can ascertain as written in my blog called Cosmic Ordering.
I think, therefore I am.
Very many thanks for the positivity and reminder”
