2023, the year ahead using the Major Tarot cards
For those of you not familiar with the Tarot cards, the Major Arcana cards differ from the minor cards in that they represent the universal laws and principles, whereas the minor cards deal with the more mundane, earthy aspects of our lives.
The Major Arcana can be read like the soul’s journey through life and the lessons to be learned along the way. Each major card within itself can express a particular lesson or message.
The Major Arcana cards in Tarot are numbered through from 0 – 21.
In Tarot numerology, the date of New Year’s day, 2023, adds up to 9.
The number 9 Tarot card is The Hermit. The picture is of a white haired, bearded man with his lamp, who has found his path to the top of the mountain. I read this as the pathfinder, the light bearer who has a positive effect on his environment. Having found the pathway himself, he now sheds his light (knowledge) for others to find their way. I would see this as a person or teacher who may be able to show us the way forward from their own experiences. Possibly with the thought of ‘brothers in arms’ helping others through a shared experience to move forward.
If we take the number of the year itself 2023, then it adds up to a 7.
The number 7 Tarot card is The Chariot. Some decks show this card with a charioteer with his chariot and horses. If we look at the charioteer commanding his horses and chariot forward it give us the idea of mastery of ourselves and our surroundings. This card is of self control, self confidence and of taking action.
One of my decks illustrated this point using the image of the horses going in different directions: if one represents the emotional mind and the other the rational mind, unless they work together, then the chariot is going nowhere. So, it is the ability to rise and master the material world, using our talents to the full with all avenues of personal advancement conscientiously followed up bringing success as a result of effort.
Overall then, we have the two messages for 2023 of finding a new pathway and of taking up the ‘reins of responsibility’ in order to rise up with confidence to a better world for ourselves.
I would like to end by wishing you everything you wish for yourselves and your families for 2023.
