The Queen: What a lady, what a life!
I wonder how Elizabeth 11 felt when she had to take on the heavy burden of State and crown as an inexperienced 25 year woman, mother of two children. A daunting prospect.
Not only was she a shining example of devotion to duty but she also became the matriarch of a large family who obviously adored her.
I think it was wonderful that she referred to Prince Philip as ‘her rock’ and his comment that tolerance was a key ingredient in the marriage gave an interesting insight to their relationship.
I felt the Queen would retire somewhat from public life before departing her realm for a more spiritual one. I hope she left in the way that Sophie, Countess of Wessex referred to Prince Philip’s departure as ‘so gentle, it’s just like someone took him by the hand and off he went’.
A friend sent me this poem which I thought summed it beautifully:
Queen:
Philip came to see me today and said it was time to go.
I looked at him and smiled as I whispered that ‘I know’.
I then turned and looked behind me and seen I was asleep.
All my family were around me, and I could hear them weep.
I gently touched each shoulder. with Philip by my side.
Then turned and walked away with my Angel guide.
Philip held my hand as he lead the way,
to world where Kings and Queens are monarchs every day.
I was given a crown to wear or halo known by some.
The difference is up here they are worn by everyone.
I felt a sense of peace my reign has seen its end.
70 years I have served my country as the people’s friend.
Thank you for all the years for all your time and love.
Now I am one of two again, in our palace up above.
