#Wordprompt Play

Amanda sat in the darkness of the theatre waiting for the matinee performance to start. She hadn’t wanted to be at her husband’s business conference and mix with the other wives, so she had escaped to the theatre to watch the play.

As curtains drew back, she settled into her seat eating the chocolates she had brought with her. As the play progressed, one of the characters drew her attention more and more. She felt the acting out of the storyline was superb as his insidious character, subtle but harmful, took its toll on the other characters.

Then, she had a shock as something crystallised in her conscious mind. She realised she had seen this sort of behaviour before and had obviously perceived it at some deeper level. Now she was aware of the person in her life who was manipulating others, making seemingly innocuous remarks that left her and her siblings feeling insecure and questioning themselves, whilst appearing so charming to all.

It was time to stand up to the carer, who particularly made her feel inadequate and unable to look after her elderly father, and get rid of her out of their lives.
